What is the Women's Civic Institute?
The Women’s Civic Institute is a series of trainings, panels, and discussions to help participants develop skills for community leadership. The program serves students want to be an active, positive force in their community. Participants will meet and learn from leaders whose knowledge and experience will inspire them to be a voice for change. For a participant's perspective, read Istianah's reflection on our blog.
Participants are expected to attend the events listed below. A detailed schedule with dates and locations will be sent when spring semester begins.
- January - Civic engagement workshop (one session)
- February - Diversity competence training and social (two sessions)
- March - Panel of elected women and panel of nonprofit directors (two sessions)
- April - Networking training, service project, and final reflection/discussion (three sessions)
The Women's Civic Institute will be run by SIU's WOmen's Resource Center in Spring 2022.
